Chelsea have completed their fourth deal of the current transfer window till date by allowing highly-rated young defender Jake Clarke-Salter to join Sunderland on loan for the rest of the season, while their striker Michy Batshuayi is reportedly being eyed by La Liga outfit Sevilla – on loan as well.
Clarke-Salter, who was named on the bench for Chelsea’s FA Cup tie against Norwich on January 6, is an Under-20 World Cup winner and has joined the Black Cats on a loan deal that will run until the end of the season. Sunderland, who were relegated to the Championship at the end of the last season, are currently sitting at the bottom of the league and their manager Chris Coleman is now looking to avoid further mishap by acquiring players who can help him in his task.
With the Championship club not sanctioning much of a budget to sign new players, it is evident that Coleman will look to sign players on loan and acquiring Clarke-Salter will be a positive step forward. Furthermore, the Black Cats are also expected to make a loan approach for Liverpool’s Ben Woodburn who has found his first-team opportunities hard to come by.

Meanwhile for Clarke-Salter, he is a three-time FA Youth Cup winner and double UEFA Youth League champion and after completing the deal, Sunderland manager Chris Coleman was quoted by the club’s website as saying, “Jake is a hugely talented young player who has jumped at the opportunity to come to this club and show people what he can do.
“You don’t play for a club like Chelsea unless you have tremendous ability and I’m sure he will be able to demonstrate that for Sunderland. Jake is exactly the type of hungry young player I have spoken about and he has shown me just how keen he is to come to here and play in front of our supporters.”
Clarke-Salter has only had one loan tenure prior to the Sunderland deal and it was with Bristol Rovers. His tenure, however, was cut short due to an unfortunate injury, but he believes that he is now “ready for the next step up.” And as things stand for Michy Batshuayi, Goal has reported that Sevilla boss Vincenzo Montella is looking to land the Belgium international at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán for the rest of the season.
With the FIFA World Cup approaching, the former Marseille man is looking to get regular first-team action, but for Chelsea, it is believed that they will only sanction his move if an alternative is acquired.
The Blues have already acquired the Ross Barkley from Everton for £15m, while a certain young prodigy Ike Ugbo has joined MK Dons on loan just days after recalling him from Barnsley.
