Argentina captain Lionel Messi stunned a reporter by revealing he wore the lucky amulet, given by the reporter's mother, during his side's 2-1 win against Nigeria.
In a video uploaded on Instagram, a reporter was seen giving the Argentina captain a red colour amulet after Argentina's 1-1 draw against Iceland and said his mother loves him (Messi) more than she loves her own son. The red ribbon he gave was a good luck charm for the forward and asked Messi to keep it safe.
After their 3-0 defeat to Croatia, Argentina needed a win against Nigeria, and thanks to the goals from Leo Messi and Marcos Rojo, they managed to book a place in the round of 16. While confronting the players, the same reported popped out and asked Messi, "I don't know if you remember, but my mother gave you an amulet.
"I don't know if you threw it away or something..."
To everyone's surprise, Leo pulled down his left sock and showed the reporter that he was wearing it all the way long. The Barcelona forward eventually headed towards the changing room while the reporter turned towards the camera and said, "Mum, Messi wore it."
The amulet brought all the good luck for Argentina as they defeated Nigeria 2-1 in the final game where Messi scored his first goal of the tournament. Courtesy to a last-minute goal from Marcos Rojo, Argentina booked a place in the round of 16 where they will face France.
