"Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that," once said the Liverpool great, Bill Shankly. Speaking of the context, the body of die-heart Lionel Messi fan, Dinu Alex, 30, has been recovered from the Meenachil river, Kerala.

Only a few days back, when Croatia humiliated Argentina 3-0, Dinu had left his home, penning down a suicide note which read, “I have nothing left in this world to view further. I am going into the depths of death. No one else is responsible for my death.”

Last seen by his mother at 12.30 a.m. on Friday, Dinu left his home soon after the final whistle while his parents were in deep sleep. Dinu's mother, next morning, saw the door to her kitchen open while the 30-year-old was not in his room as well. “I saw him watching the match at 11.30pm. We learned that he used to tell his friends that he would be ashamed to go out and face others if Argentina loses,” PV Alexander, the deceased’s father, told the media.

Dinu's body was found by the locals on the banks of River Meenachil near Kottayam. The Hindu quotes that Alex's relatives identified his body on the basis of gold he was wearing. Meanwhile, the local police have completed all the legalities and have transferred the body to Kottayam Government Medical College for post-mortem.

Alex worked as an accountant in a private firm and had predicted Argentina as the winner of the FIFA World Cup 2018

Only a week earlier, Dinu along with his friends went to buy Messi's jersey and after a long, he finally found what he was looking for. “Last Friday we went around the town to buy a Messi jersey for Dinu. We got drenched in the rain as he hopped from one shop to another in search of the perfect jersey. Some had the number, but not the name (of Messi) and some others had the name but no number. At last when he got the one he searched for, he wore it at the shop itself and took a selfie. Messi was his God,” said Mr. Sumesh, his colleague at the food outlet where Dinu has been working as an accountant.
