In what can be termed as one of the most high profiles games of the season, newly rejuvenated Unai Emery’s Arsenal shared the stakes as Alexandre Lacazette rescued a point against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. Arsenal, right at this very moment, are playing with intent, with Emery deploying a fluid pure attacking football where Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, Lacazette and Mesut Ozil are the pivots.
But as they say, a footballing battle is won in the midfield and for Emery, so was the case. This time around though, it was neither Xhaka nor Guendouzi; it was their little pocket-sized explosive, Lucas Torreira. Having a slow start to his new life in London, the Uruguayan midfielder seems to have settled perfectly at the Emirates and his performance against Liverpool is the perfect specimen of it. And for those who love numbers, here are your stats:
Lucas Torreira vs Liverpool
89% pass accuracy
1/1 dribble won
4/6 accurate long balls
2/2 tackles won
4/5 duels won
1 blocked shot
Beast of a midfielder and he is only going to get better. pic.twitter.com/Bdyey2AuT1

Yes, he had his nervy moments, but to say he was all over the field when Arsenal were not in possession – or even when they were – would be an utter understatement. It was a game which underlined how well the partnership of Xhaka and Torreira could work for the Gunners. They complimented each other with sheer perfection. Indeed they took time as it was their sixth start together, and this was their best performance thus far.

The understanding between your two central midfielders is a must, and Xhaka and Torreira did it to the utmost superiority. Liverpool, on their part, had several breaks throughout the period, but the midfield duo made sure nothing gets past through them and the aforementioned clip is a fine example. Fans, on their part, were left stunned by the Uruguayan’s performance and this is how they reacted on Twitter:
If I found Torreira having sex with my girl, I would bring them breakfast in bed.

Got to say, Lucas Torreira is a gem of a player, reminds me of shades of Kante 16/17, will run and run and tackle with ease and then start off the attacks.

Lucas Torreira is the player that Arsene Wenger was missing for the last 5 years of his reign. Reads danger so well and is such a tenacious tackler.

Xhaka-Torreira absolutely bossing this game. It's not surprising because we have the superior midfield, what's surprising is Liverpool's press hasn't been very effective centrally so far.
