It’s a bit ironic when a player who failed to make an impact with Premier League giants Manchester United wants to join the champions of Europe, Real Madrid. However, such is the confidence of winger Memphis Depay, who has been doing great with Ligue 1 giants Lyon, whom he joined in 2017, once he left from Old Trafford after failing to impress in the top flight of English football.
The attacker who managed to score a couple of goals in 33 appearances is hopeful that he can someday make it to the Bernabeu and once again be a top star, as he is still just 23 years old. The player, who failed to make a mark for himself under Louis van Gaal at The Theatre of Dreams, decided to leave for France and is now with his third club.
The player has impressed under Bruno Genesio and is hoping to make more starts for the French side’s first team and earn back the respect and form that he lost, during his time in England, as a prized asset.
If he is able to regain the momentum and get back to his best in the upcoming days, there is surely a possibility that he can rise to the top and soon. Well, that is what he believes at least and why not, there have been such surprises in the past. He told the same to PSV Supporter magazine in an interview that his ambitions were clear and he knows where his future lies and is working hard for it.
“I think I’m going to Real Madrid. Yes, that’s a serious goal,” he told The PSV Supporter magazine, relayed by The Mirror. “What’s happened so far, that’s God, he helps me and brings me here.
“I had very nice times at PSV, but I wanted to reach higher goals in my career. At Lyon I’m very happy. The club is in a way comparable to PSV.”
Well, there is no doubt that the La Liga holders were keen on signing Depay a few seasons ago, though, with the emergence of some recent young talents and his drop in form, it will be quite tough for him to attract their attention now.
However, it is always possible that things can work out in his favour, though it will be way tougher for him now that it would have been back then. If only, he had not joined Manchester United.
