Mohamed Salah, with his exhilarating performances for Liverpool, has earned several accolades, with the latest one being a freaky artwork at the World Youth Forum in his hometown, Sharm El Sheikh. Remember his celebration against Manchester City in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final last year? Yep! That exactly what the artist Mai Abdel Allah picked for the statue.
According to him, the statue is supposed to represent Salah’s dedication and determination. “So, I found it is distinguished and executable,” Abdel Allah told Egyptian newspaper al-Masry al-Youm. According to Sky News, Abdel Allah came up with the idea back in 2016 but started working on it in 2018 and it took her a month to complete her artwork.

Fans, on their part, were left amused by this ‘artwork’ which looks more or less like a caricature, to say the least. For those who aren’t aware of what ‘caricature’ is; it is something which exaggerates a certain characteristic to give a comic feel. So as far as the statue is concerned, it feels exactly the same, as there is no proper proportion of its head, hand and legs.
And well, this is certainly not the first time fans have got to witness something like that. Remember the Cristiano Ronaldo sculpture at the Madeira Airport? It was back in March 2017 when the Portugal captain was honoured by a bust in an official ceremony of renaming the local airport as ‘Aeroporto Cristiano Ronaldo.’
In June this year though, the bust was replaced after the artist Emanuel Santos sculptured a new one, which fortunately looked more like Ronaldo. Meanwhile, as far as Salah’s statue is concerned, this is how the fans are reacting to it:
