Trent Alexander-Arnold Signs A New Contract
Right-back Trent-Alexander Arnold has signed a new five-year contract with Liverpool, just eight months after signing a new deal with the club.
The 18-year old had penned a new five-year deal earlier in November 2016, but the club have rewarded Arnold with another improved five-year contract after his impressive performances over the course of the 2016/17 season. The full-back made his debut for Liverpool in October last year, in a EFL Cup encounter against Tottenham Hotspur and went on to make 12 appearances over the course of the season.
“Trent sets the tone for everything he does with his attitude and character,” the Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp told Liverpool’s official website.
“He commits to everything he does: he wants to learn, he wants to grow, he wants to develop and his focus is absolutely in the right place.”
PSG Make Coutinho Their Second Priority Behind Mbappe
French giants Paris Saint-Germain have made Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho their plan B, if they fail in their pursuit of AS Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe.
The Brazilian playmaker has emerged as one of the best players in his position across Europe and has become a target for the likes of Barcelona as well. It is understood that PSG are willing to spend around £70 million for Coutinho, while the Reds value him in the region of £87 million. After having seen their Ligue 1 title streak brought to an end by Monaco in the last season, Les Parisiens are keen on making a statement signing and see Mbappe as their main target to add guile and pace upfront, but aren’t willing to put all their eggs in one basket.

Keita Not For Sale Even For €100 million
RB Leipzig have toughened their stance over the potential sale of Naby Keita, who is being heavily pursued by Liverpool. The 22-year old is Jurgen Klopp’s top transfer target and the Reds have been linked with a £70 million move for him.
There were also reports that the Guinea international has a £48 million release clause in his contract that can be triggered in the summer of 2018. However, Leipzig sporting director Ralf Rangnick has refuted any such claims, stating that there is no such clause in any of the club’s players’ contracts.
“There are no players in our squad who have an exit clause,” he said at a press briefing.
He further went on to add that none of their vital players is for sale in the summer, even if they receive offers in the range of €100 million. He said:
“I will repeat it one more time, we will not sell any of our key players. There are a lot of reports about there being a certain figure where we could be open to a sale, but they are all false.
“We are not selling anyone even if we are talking about a three-figure transfer fee and the players know that.
“I have already said that before and nothing has changed in that aspect.
“It is only normal that there is interest in our players after a season like this, also because of what guys like Keita and [Emil] Forsberg have done for their national teams. That does not change our stance.
“There is no reason for the players to leave, we have directly qualified for the Champions League.” (Mirror)
Liverpool Behind Tottenham In Chase For Meyer
Liverpool have been overtaken by fellow Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur in the hunt for Schalke midfielder Max Meyer.
The 21-year old has been monitored heavily by both the clubs and was watched by a horde of scouts in the recently concluded UEFA U-21 European championships, where Meyer was representing the German U-21 team, leading them to victory. Both Liverpool and Tottenham were interested in the player in the last summer, but were priced out of a move with Schalke valuing him at £39 million.
However, with just 12 months left on his contract, the Bundesliga outfit are willing to listen to offers in the range of £17 million only. But it looks like Liverpool will lose out to Spurs in the race for the starlet. (Football London)
Liverpool Confident Of Getting £30m For Sakho
Liverpool are refusing to lower their £30 million valuations of defender Mamadou Sakho and it is understood that they remain confident that an interested party will come along and meet their demands.
The 27-year old is unwanted at Anfield, following his falling out with Jurgen Klopp last season and hasn’t played for the Reds in over an year. However, he heavily impressed on a loan spell with Crystal Palace in the second half of the season, helping the Eagles to avoid relegation under former Sam Allardyce and was even nominated for the club’s Player of the Year award. They were interested in signing the Frenchman on a permanent but are baulking at the price-tag.
It is claimed that Liverpool have had some enquiries for the defender and they remain confident that their valuation will be met after seeing local rivals Everton spend £30 million over Michael Keane. (Liverpool Echo)
