When there is a big match, teams tend to pick up slightly unconventional training techniques. Tottenham are not behind in this regard, either. Call it unconventional or uncanny, Spurs roped in a few different techniques to prepare themselves for the big day. A few activities to lighten up the mind before the biggest game in your club’s history sounds about right.
The Tottenham Hotspur team and support staff had two slightly unusual activities in a football training ground. Both the teams in the final have not played a single game since their last Premier Leauge game. It was, hence, important to motivate the players.
Mauricio Pochettino got a special guest to come and visit the players. The players are at Enfield training HQ and Xesco Espar flew in after getting a call from the manager. Xesco is no stranger to Pochettino as the duo helped motivate his previous squad – Southampton.
Coming back to the training activities, Spurs indulged in a few death-defying challenges which made the regular routines look a bit lame. They shot arrows with windpipes and walked over hot coal. Yes, the Spurs players were made to walk over hot coal by the motivational speaker, who believes in this training a lot.
Boss, Pochettino said:
It was nice to see the reaction of the players, the character and the personality of them. Sometimes you see them on the pitch doing some things and then outside doing some activities, maybe they are more cautious or braver. You say ‘Oh, this guy is brave, he’s ready to work’. And maybe another, the one you believe is going to be the first, isn’t.
As mentioned earlier, here is a video of the Southampton players doing the same during Pochettino’s reign.
What seemed like a few terrifying activities, were definitely motivational for the Tottenham players and we hope they can go on to win the trophy.
