Singer turned BJP MP Babul Supriyo has been appointed as the Vice President of the organising committee of the FIFA U17 World Cup.
Supriyo is certainly a football fan, but he has been known to the Indian industry as a marquee singer, as he has been a playback singer for a number of years. Back in 2014, the Uttarpara born singer won the Lok Sabha election from West Bengal, and his move from Singer to Politics to Football has earned a lot of rave reviews.
taking after Supriyo’s appointment, Kushal Das – AIFF general secretary – said:
“Babul Supriyo is a huge football fan. He has some great ideas on football.
“He (Supriyo) would be part of the Board of Directors (of the LOC). When he comes for meetings, I am sure he will come up with certain ideas. I have discussed football with him several times, and I think he is extremely knowledgeable and will be able to contribute a lot,” Das added.
Have appointed my friend and great football fan as Vice President of the U17 World Cup Organising Committee. Welcome aboard @SuPriyoBabul ! https://t.co/ujyl1CxQgx

From October this year, India will be hosting the U-17 FIFA World cup and on April 6 and 9, the boys will be up against Mali U17 team as a part of the preparation for the tournament. The friendlies will be a major test for the team’s new coach Luis Norton de Matos, who took over from Nicolai Adam.
The boys are all set to travel to Europe soon in order to get a proper exposure and as per the reports from Hindustan Times, they will be playing against the Portuguese team of same age group.
Soon after the news broke out, Twitter exploded like anything:
@praful_patel On what merit was @SuPriyoBabul appointed? Any previous experience/expertise in Organising mega events?
