Joining an already star-studded list of elite footballers, Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak has switched his alliance to PUMA on a long-term contract. Considered as one of the finest goalkeepers of the generation, the Slovenian international was previously associated with Nike.
PUMA have made a massive statement of intent by roping the 26-year-old, with their roster already having the likes of Antoine Griemzmann, Sergio Aguero, Romelu Lukaku, David Silva and Luis Suarez to name a few. As things stand, Oblak’s announcement was actually several days in the making, as it was during the December 2018 that he was spotted training blackout boots and gloves.
As for the photoshoot, the stopper was pictured in PUMA’s Future 19.1 “Power Up” pack, leading to the reports that he will amongst several stars like Griezmann, Marco Reus, Luis Suarez and Marko Arnautovic to don their new design, The FUTURE boots. Oblak, till date, technically remains the most expensive goalkeeper of all time, as his contract with the Ros Rojiblancos includes a €100 million buy-out clause.
Named La Liga’s best goalkeeper three times in a row, Oblak remains one vital member of Deigo Simeone’s squad, having kept 100 career clean sheets in 178 games since his move to Madrid in 2014.
And well, it is a sure-shot fact that PUMA’s recruiting drive isn’t taking a halt at Oblak. Assuming good times for the Germans.
