Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi has penned down a new long-term deal with the American sports manufacturers, Nike, which will see him being associated with the company until 2027.
That being said, Icardi has become one of the very few players from the sporting circuit to have received such long-term deal from the American company. Only three players, namely, LeBron James, Michael Jordan and Cristiano Ronaldo have signed a “lifetime” endorsement with the company.
Meanwhile, by the time Icardi’s contract will run out, the Argentine will be 34. His initial deal with Nike was signed way back in 2013, with an initial six-year deal being agreed. “We finally came to a renewal of the contract with Nike. After months of work, this six-year partnership will continue for many more years. You deserve this and all the best in the world for being a great person and a unique athlete. Happy to work for you.”
Icardi recently visited London for a promotional event, which eventually triggered the media speculations of his rumoured move to Chelsea. The visit, however, was completely business and this is when the contract was signed.
Nike, as part of their ‘Brothers of the World’ campaign, launched a limited edition shirt, featuring Icardi. The design featured a target symbol dominating the centre of the shirt, which represents his prolific form in front of the goal. Furthermore, “as a tribute to his beloved homeland, the outline of Argentina features down the side of the shirt, and the national flag is reinterpreted with a yellow sun on a blue background.”
