The Indian athletes are winning meals for fun in the ongoing 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang. This year the Indian contingent has seen the emergence of young athletes, who come from a humble background and ensured that world takes notice of their talent.
We look at athletes who have a memorable outing at the 2018 Asian Games.
Saurabh Chaudhary
The 16-year-old, son of sugarcane farmer is currently the toast of the country after his Gold Medal exploits in 10m Air Pistol event. The youngster practiced with his hands stretched and hang a bangle-like strip attached to their wrist. The youngster had won a Gold medal and also set a new junior world record in the ISSF Junior World Cup in Germany.
Hima Das
The new sensation in the Indian track and field, Das continue to shine on tracks with her silver medal performance in women’s 400m. The Assam born runner grabbed headlines after winning gold in the World Junior Championship in the same event.
The youngest among the five kids in the family the 18-year-old trained on a muddy football field and also helped her father in the rice field. It was only 2 years ago that she started training with spikes and from there on she has raced her way into the record books.
Shardul Vihan
What do you do when you are just 15-years-old. At such a young age you would be enjoying life and preparing for the future. In case of Vihan it has been completely the opposite as the youngster enjoys spotlight after surprising everyone to win silver in the Men’s Double trap event.
Having taken to the sport at the very early age of 9, the Delhi youngster practiced without firearms as he was not allowed to shoot with firearms till 12. In just three years time the youngster has grown from strength to strength and looks to have a bright future in the sport.
