A balanced diet for any athlete is a must and there is no difference if you want to be a tennis star. The diet of tennis player should have a perfect balance of carbohydrates, proteins, healthy fats, minerals and vitamins, and water or fluids. And not to forget – intense practice in the gym and tennis court.
If you want to be a tennis player growing up also keep in mind that fresh food is ideal rather than processed and readymade food. Let’s have a look at a list of things what you should eat and avoid while you are in the process of becoming a tennis professional.
Before a Tennis Match:
During the competition days – a healthy breakfast is a must. It should include carbohydrates such as oatmeal, low-calorie fruits and whole wheat. These carbs will have enough energy saved in your body which keeps you going through the match. A little amount of protein such as egg, milk or Greek yoghurt complements the carbs well for the breakfast. However, a good amount of protein will be more necessary after the match to get that energy and power back. But one must keep in mind that a budding tennis player or a professional should have breakfast at least a couple of an hours before the match. A player should also avoid sugar-rich breakfast as there can be a loss of energy during a match.
During a Tennis Match:
Consuming fluid is very important during the matches. You should consume as much as fluids you can. A player should not wait to be thirsty in order to drink water or any other kind of fluid. A perfect snack during a match is a banana, which keeps blood sugar levels steady. Sports drinks are preferable to water because they contain carbohydrates. Intake of carbs during the matches will give more power and help in accuracy as well. It is important to have fluid every fifteen minute or so. A coconut water can also help a tennis player during the match.
Tennis Diet after a Tennis Match:
After the game diet is a very crucial meal. During the match you have lost energy and electrolytes – so it’s important to have an accurate meal here. you will need to eat a good amount of food and drink beverages that recharge your muscle. For muscle recovery, a high amount of protein such as chicken or fish should be eaten with some carbohydrates and vegetables. Brown rice, chicken breast or buffalo meat make for the best recovery meal post your match. A tennis athlete should also have 2-3 cups of sports drink or low-fat milk after the match.
