Argentina were crushed to a humiliating 3-0 defeat against Croatia last night which has now left the La Albiceleste on the edge of being knocked out of the tournament in the group stage for the first time since 2002.
Many were left disheartened by the fact, while for some, it was a reason for amusement. And former World Number 1 Andy Murray is one of them. Former Argentina tennis star Juan Monaco flew all the way to Russia to see his side play against Croatia along with Diego Schwartzman and Juan Ignacio Chela. Taking to social media, Monaco posted the trio’s images with the caption, “Vamos ARGENTINA !!!!”
Unfortunately for them, Argentina failed to break the Croatian defence and recorded their first ever defeat against the Vatreni in the FIFA World Cup. Meanwhile, former Tennis World number 1, Andy Murray was scrolling through his Instagram timeline and was quick in trolling his playing buddies. On the aforementioned post, Murray replied, “Are you happy you travelled all the way to watch that?”
The reply certainly wasn’t gulped in peace as Juan ‘Pico’ Monaco replied Murray with a raised middle-finger emoji.
Murray had just returned to competitive tennis after almost a year through injury and faced Nick Kyrgios at Queen’s on Tuesday. The Australian played erratically in the first set to lose it 2-6 but came back to win the next two sets 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 to ensure the elimination of the local favourite. Murray will now be hoping to mount a serious comeback when he looks to add his third Wimbledon title next month.
