Back in March, Nike X Le Bron James collaboration paid tribute to NFL great Bo Jackson with the release of the LeBron 16 ‘Air Trainer Medicine Ball’. Now, they are all set to honour another legendary athlete from the 1980s with the latest design of his Nike LeBron 16. The ‘Hot Lava’ colourway will be released on May 24, to pay tribute to tennis champion and fashion icon, Andre Agassi.
Apart from being a champion at the court, this retired professional tennis star has been a man of many achievements. He was once the talk of the town with his unique sense of style, flashy clothes and out of the box hairstyles.
Prior to NBA superstars like Russell Westbrook pushing the boundaries of fashion and sports, there was Andre Agassi. With his brightly coloured Nikes, Agassi disrupted the tennis world with his on-court style and rebellious demeanour. He won big while embracing a style that was uniquely his own.
Paying tribute to his style, here is the sneak peek inside the new Nike LeBron 16 ‘Hot Lava’.
LeBron James and Nike are feeling the early 90s vibes as they revisit the Air Tech Challenge II for an upcoming Nike LeBron 16 drop.
This tennis/training shoe worn by Andre Agassi championed the ‘Hot Lava’ theme with a splattered graphics on the upper and is considered to be one of the most recognizable and era-defining sneakers in history.
The white version maintains a clear nod to the original, while a second alternate colourway of black presents an ‘away’ theme. Both styles keep consistent with the materials of 1991 original with ribbed nylon, micro-perforated leather, and leather Swoosh logos.
The sole has a maze-like structure with a silhouette of LeBron in red in the middle of the shoe.
Nike’s senior director Heidi Burgett took to Twitter to share the pictures of the new sneakers.

According to Sole Collector, the 8-time Grand Slam winner, Agassi reached his first grand slam final at the 1990 French Open wearing the ‘Hot Lava’ colourway that inspired this latest design of LeBron’s shoe.
Agassi’s Nike Air Tech Challenge II ‘Hot Lava’ was released in 1989 before going on to become one of the most sought after sneakers in Nike history.
An official release of these ‘Hot Lava’ is set to be announced on Nike SNKRS and at Nike Basketball retailers beginning on May 24th.
