After skipping the clay court season completely, Roger Federer has made a comeback with Stuttgart Cup. The world No. 2 will play at the hilltop Weissenhof club for this week where he lost a year ago in the first round to Tommy Haas.
Federer took a break to rest and prepare for the grass court season. The 20-time Grand Slam winner is gearing up for the Wimbledon tournament that is scheduled to take place the next month. However, while talking to media he said he would like to clash with Nadal in Paris once again. “I would like to once again have a battle against Nadal at Roland Garros,” he said.
However, Federer also praised Nadal for his exceptional show on clay. “It’s incredible. All the players on the circuit have no choice but to bow to him, only the superlatives fit,” said the legend.
Sharing his future plans, Federer said, “There are a lot of things at stake. I expected Rafa to win the French — not taking anything away from him. But that creates a situation I was expecting. I know I have to reach the final here to get back to No. 1, that’s an extra motivation.”
He further added, “I’m taking one thing at a time and not looking too far ahead. Margins on the grass are slim, it’s not so simple to win a Grand Slam, it’s seven matches – that’s a lot of tennis.”
