After Roger Federer’s shock exit at the hands of Kevin Anderson, Top seed Rafael Nadal is the firm favorite to lift the title at the All England Club. The World number one will face old rival Novak Djokovic in the second semi-final after beating Juan Martin del Potro in five grueling sets.
Nadal won the match 7-5, 6-7 (7/9), 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 after four hours and 48 minutes to reach his sixth Wimbledon semi-final. The world number one, who reached his first All England Club quarter-final since 2011, took out crucial break point in the opening set for a 6-5 lead before claiming the set after a backhand error from Del Potro.
In the second set, the World No 2 wasted four set points to allow Del Potro to pounce on the opportunity and level the tie at 1-1. In a stunning turnaround former US Open champion, Del Potro took 2 set lead after with a deep forehand.
Nadal though is known to dig deep when it matters the most and the World No 1 did exactly the same thing that was expected of him. He came back strong to level the tie.
The fifth and final set witnessed some great shot-making as Nadal broke Del Potro to take 3-2 lead. He went onto save break points in the sixth and eighth games before securing a hard-fought win.
