Grigor Dimitrov is regarded as one of the most talented tennis players out on the tennis circuit. The Bulgarian is well-known for his elegant brand of tennis, earning him comparisons with the legendary Roger Federer and earning him the moniker, ‘Baby Fed’.
But for a long period during his career, Dimitrov was better known for being in a relationship with Russian bombshell, fellow tennis player Maria Sharapova. Things which he did off the court made more headlines than whatever he accomplished on the court. The pair were in a relationship between 2012 and 2015 and if comments are anything to go by, he does not reflect upon fondly on that period in his life.
Speaking on how the break-up with Sharapova made his life miserable, Dimitrov said in an interview with Mr. Porter, “I stopped with my coach. I lost my ranking. I basically sucked at tennis I was fighting with people and I went through my break-up. I was tired of everything, one by one, falling apart. I’ve always been a very easy-going person. I don’t want to say gullible, but when I saw someone I always thought that person is the way they present themselves (but) that’s not entirely true.”
Dimitrov is now in a relationship with British pop star Nicole Scherzinger and despite their conflicting schedules, he and the Brit beauty have found a way to make things work.
“It’s not easy. The schedules are very heavy. But she’s doing a better job than I am at being able to come to most of the places I’m at.”
Dimitrov did not have the best of starts at Wimbledon, being knocked out by three-time Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka, but has found much more consistency in his game, leading many to believe that a maiden Grand Slam victory is not far off in his career.
