Narsingh Yadav is to fight his first bout in Rio Olympics on August 19 but on Tuesday, he received another jolt when World Anto-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed against the clean chit given to the Indian wrestler by NADA in a dope scandal.
Indian contingent’s chef-de-mission Rakesh Gupta told media, “WADA has appealed against the NADA clearance in Court of Arbitration (CAS). Now, the hearing is on and the IOA Secretary General [Rajeev Mehta] is there with WADA officials.”
If CAS upholds WADA’s appeal then Narsingh would face a career-ending four-year ban. The wrestler was tested positive for a banned anabolic steroid – Methandienone – on June 25. After testing positive, Narsingh had claimed that he was a victim of a controversy. After two days of anxiety and nervousness, he was given a clean chit by NADA.
WADA’s involvement in the case has sparked the dope controversy yet again and that too just before 3 days from Narsingh’s bout. If proven guilty, Narsingh would not only be able to take part in the Olympics but will be banned for four years.
