Although no Czech darts players have qualified for the 31st World Darts Championship 2024, which will take place between 15 December 2023 and 3 January 2024 at London’s Alexandra Palace, Star Casino, a casino chain with more than 20 years of tradition, supported the sport, which has been on the rise in recent years.
The World Darts Championship is the biggest event of the year and has been a tradition since 1994. Unfortunately, Czech darts player Karel Sedláček, known as “Zlej Kája”, whose partner is the Star Casino network, did not qualify this year.
„Until the last moment we believed that “Zlej Kája” would qualify for the World Championships and then he would perform one of his greatest achievements until know. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen, but we are convinced that next year will be a great motivation for him to finish what he started this year and we believe that one day he will attack the highest ranks in darts.” says Miloslav Bohůnek, Business Development Manager of CEC Praha a.s., Star Casino network, and continues:

A lifelong passion for darts helped Karel Sedláček to become the first ever Czech PDC Tour Card holder. At the age of 12, he was given a target by a friend and over the years his dart hobby turned into a professional career. His sporting career is outstanding and far from over. Although he won’t be competing for the darts championship this year, however his partners at Star Casino believe that luck will be on his side next year.

In recent years, more and more attention has been drawn to this type of sport and entertainment, which is gaining popularity both in Czech pubs, where people gather for a beer while throwing darts at a target, and on TV screens or during visits to darts tournaments in stadiums.
„It’s good that, thanks to darts, we manage to keep people in pubs, bars or stadiums, because lately it seems to me that we don’t spend much time together with friends and we tend to shut ourselves in our homes. For me, it’s right to give space to express emotions with friends outside the home, where we spend most of our time” adds Miloslav Bohůnek.
Support for sport, children and youth
For children and young people, the launch of Karel Sedláček’s darts career can serve as an inspiration not to give up on their dreams, and at the same time it is a way to support young athletes, for example, at an early age across sports. The Czech Republic has successful athletes in a number of sports who are constantly pushing world boundaries. Swapping time spent on phones and tablets for participation in a local sports club, whether in the village or town, can encourage the discovery of new talented athletes who will represent their home country in the future, and this makes a lot of sense according to CEC Praha, a.s., the operator of the Star Casino network. Therefore, we will continuously support all the municipalities where we operate and try to encourage young sports enthusiasts and who knows, maybe one day we will see some of them on TV screens.
