After a thrilling buzz courtesy of RJ Barrett, the 108-105 victory over the Celtics at Madison Square Garden sees the Knicks overtake Boston and rank the bottom seed in the Eastern Conference.

The Knicks, who had lost up to 25 points to Boston (more on that later) were led by Evan Fournier’s 41 points (10 of 14 from 3-point range), and Julius Randle intervened with 22 points. and eight rebounds.

Jayson Tatum led the way for Boston with 36 points, but it wasn’t enough.

Let’s take a look at some of the night’s more interesting stats.

10: 3s by Evan Fournier

Fournier was unconscious from long range, making 10 of his 14 attempts from long range. The last Knick to be this prolific in a game from three-point range? Of course, it’s JR Smith.

Smith dropped 10 3 against Miami in 2014.

35: Fournier’s point average this season vs. Knicks

In three games against the Celtics this season, Fournier is playing much better against his former club than against other teams.

Fournier has scored 30 or more just three times this season and all of those games have come against the Celtics.

10: Years since the Knicks last won the game.

Wow, it seems like a lot of things haven’t happened to the Knicks since JR Smith left, do whatever you want, but RJ Barrett’s 3-pointer who won the game was the first since JR Smith froze this game for the Knicks in Phoenix in 2012.

He is also the first Knicks player to make a buzzer-beater at MSG. since David Lee in December 2006. Each of the Knicks’ three previous game winners were on the road.

Barrett had a bad shooting night against the Cs, hitting only 3 of 14 shots from the field before the shot, but it clearly makes the most important ones, right?

16: Celtics take losses this season

Boston is beginning to develop a tendency to lose focus during a game. This loss was the fourth time this season that they lost a game when leading by 15 points or more; the only other side that did is the Pelicans, and well, that says it all.

Boston has lost six of its last seven games that went to deciding time (scoring within 5 points in the final 5 minutes of the game), and hey, that’s not great either. Overall, the Cs have lost 16 of his 23 games that have gone to the clutch.

Needless to say, coach Ime Udoka was unhappy after the game.

“It’s been the same result. We lack some kind of mental toughness there,” he said. he said. “We need someone to stay calm until late. Not someone to add more when things start to pick up speed. Sometimes it feels like everyone’s trying to do it on their own.”

Celtics join Lakers as the only teams to lose a 25-point lead this season.

2: Knicks’ 25-point comeback wins in past 25 seasons

When the Knicks go down big, specifically by 25 points or more, history suggests they won’t win the game.

The only other team to overcome a 25-point deficit this season was the Thunder coming from behind to beat the Lakers. The Celtics have a chance for a rematch with the Knicks in a couple of days Saturday at TD Garden.
