Not because of his unusual name, Washington Sundar made headlines in 2017 for becoming India’s youngest T20I player. Cricket runs in his blood, as his father was a First-Class cricketer. Following Ravichandran Ashwin’s path, Sundar turned a spinner from a batsman and found it to be his natural talent. Making his First-Class debut at the age of 17, Sundar emerged as a consistent bowler and gradually made his way to the senior team, bagging a solitary wicket on debut.

Sundar was also member of the Indian colts in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2016. He bagged 5 wickets, scored a half-century and played a crucial 43-run knock in the semi-final of the tournament. Just like his other Under-19 teammates, Sundar went under the hammer and was picked by Rising Pune Supergiant for IPL 2017. Sundar impressed with 8 wickets in the tournament, including a 3-wicket-haul against Mumbai Indians. Among his wickets were Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard.
