Prathamesh Maulingkar recently grabbed eyeballs after being crowned Mr. Supranational 2018 that was held in Krynica-Zdrój in Poland. Along with the title, he also made history by becoming the first Indian (and Asian) man to win the prestigious title. And this was not the first title the fitness model from Goa had won.
Last year, he clinched the title of ‘Mr. India Supranational 2017’, which was held at Bandra Fort in Mumbai that confirmed his ticket to the international event.
Maulingkar hails from Tivim, a village near the Northern Goan town of Mapusa. A fitness freak, Maulingkar entered the modeling world after his football career came to an end due to an injury. Having started his career with the U-16 Dempo team where he gained recognition for his exceptional performance, he was selected in the Goa U19 team for the junior nationals. His talent was spotted by the national selectors who chose him for the India U-19 camp.
His first played professional football at club level for Paillan Arrows in the I-League. He was selected to play for the India U23 team against Iraq in the qualifiers ahead of the 2013 AFC U22 Asian Championship but an injury forced him to quit the sport and take up modeling.
An adherent fan of Cristiano Ronaldo’s fitness, Maulingkar said that he never changed his training programme and always kept things simple while doing the workout. “I go for football practices in the morning. Where all the stability training and cardio and core workout is done. Evening I go to the gym. My workout is nothing different than others. Two muscle groups each day. One major, one small. Push ups and pull ups daily before and after my workout,” revealed Maulingkar to fitness website, fitsaurus.
Desspite of an early setback in his career, Maulingkar did not let his confidence take a hit and made a mark in some other field. He was also seen in MTV reality show Splitsvilla season 8 and was the only Asian footballer to be featured on the cover of a health and fitness magazine, Glam and Glaze. The Goan model now wants to continue his modeling journey and also motivate people to achieve their fitness goals.
