Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has confirmed that he wishes to return to Spain one day amidst the rumours of Real Madrid wanting him desperately.

The towering Belgian has 18 months left on his current Chelsea contract and talks about the potential extension have been stalling off lately. As per the Standard Sports, any such discussion will be held at the end of the season given that both the player and the club are currently concentrating on the ongoing season. Chelsea entered the discussion back in May, but Courtois - who currently makes £100,000 a week - rejected the offer as it was below the £200,000-a-week.

Chelsea are now looking out for a possibility of reaching a compromise, but they are well aware of the fact that convincing him to stay will be a grueling task anyway. Courtois is certainly enjoying his time with Chelsea, but the fact that he has two young children living in Madrid might force him to move away from London.

Courtois met Marta Dominguez - his children's mother - while his time with Atletico Madrid, but the couple separated back in April. Dominguez now resides in Madrid with their son and the daughter. Having said that, Courtois doesn't get more time to see his children as he would want to, hence a possibility of moving to Madrid is on the card.

In terms of transfer, Real Madrid have been credited with an interest since the day Jose Mourinho was in charge of the Galacticos. They even made an official inquiry, but Chelsea's £73million valuation forced them to back out. The Galacticos are now expected to come back in summer but have also kept Manchester United's David de Gea and Athletic Bilbao's Kepa Arrizabalaga in the list as well.

However, with Courtois keen on moving to Madrid, Real might find it easy to land the Belgian. "Everybody knows that due to my personal situation, Spain attracts me. If it is not now, it will be in some years."

Speaking earlier this season he said: "I can say Courtois is one of the best, maybe the best goalkeeper in the world and he is a player very important for Chelsea. But the renewal of contract is a task for the club. He knows very well my opinion and my thoughts about him. I consider him one of the best."

Furthermore, with the rumours of Jan Oblak getting a link with PSG, Atletico might enter the fray as well. A transfer battle of Atletico and Real will seem interesting, to say the least. Courtois was further asked as to whether he is waiting for an offer from Real, and he simply replied, "No, I'm calm.

"I'm happy at Chelsea. I just want to wait (over contract talks) because now there are many games and I prefer to have my head focused on that."
