Manchester United currently have the Portugal Under-21 stopper Joel Pereira as their third choice and if Grant is to arrive, high chances that Pereira will leave the club on loan; something which he desperately needs.
Starting his career with Watford, Grant moved to Derby County after failing to make a single appearance for the Hornets. After a couple of brief loan spells around, Grant moved to Sheffield Wednesday. The 35-year-old since played for Burnley before eventually joining Stoke City in 2016. With Jack Butland out for a long spell due to injury, Grant went on to make 28 Premier League appearances in his debut (2016-17) season with the Potters.
Ironically, Grant delivered a man of the match performance against Manchester United at Old Trafford back in October 2016, which ended 1-1. As Telegraph quotes, Grant is expected to join United as a free agent and is likely to sign a one-year deal. Grant is certainly not a Premier League veteran, but has made over 500 appearances in his club career.
Meanwhile, as far as the goalkeeping department is concerned at Manchester United, 21-year-old Dean Henderson has already left for Sheffield United on loan after signing a long-term contract. Sam Johnstone, on the other hand, had a successful spell with Aston Villa and has expressed his desires of moving away already.
As we expect, Grant will hardly get any game time and the only reason United are interested is because he provides a reasonable cover to De Gea and Romero.
