We are just a few days away from the 2018 Asian Games to get underway and we can well and truly sense the excitement from all corners. The 2014 edition of this continental championship in Incheon, South Korea, saw India fairing not so good, but not bad either; an average showing to say the least. Bagging a total 57 medals that year, a total of 11 gold, 10 silver and 36 bronze medals were achieved, as India fell 8 medals short of equalling their best tally of 65 medals they achieved back in 2010 in Guangzhou.
In terms of bringing home the glory (gold), India’s best tally was recorded way back in 1951, the inaugural edition of the tournament, where the nation won as many as 15 gold medals. The record was almost equalled in 2010, but they fell one gold short.
The bar is set high this year and a decent showing at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast gave us a glimpse as what can be expected from the Indian contingent. But then again, the downside this year is the fact that some athletes, who won gold four years back, aren’t travelling, and here is the list of those athletes;
