2018 Asian Games gold medalist Swapna Barman has finally something to cheer about after receiving customized shoes from German footwear giant Adidas on Friday. Swapna had revealed in the past that because she has to squeeze her six-toes into regular shoes, she has undergo a lot of pain. Due to which, Adidas decided to come forward and help the Indian runner to solve the issue.
The sportswear manufacturer took the heptathlete to their Athlete Services Lab in Herzogenaurach, Germany, for a detailed footwear analysis. The specialists worked extensively on multiple prototypes and feedback from Swapna to finally arrive at a solution.
Speaking to India Today on receiving her new shoes, Swapna said, “I am so excited to finally have these pairs. I have already started training in these and I know from here on I can focus entirely on improving my performances without worrying about any pain. The journey from here should get easier. I would like to thank the Adidas team in India and at the Athlete Services Lab for helping me. I never dreamt in the past that I would have such unique pairs customized to my feet. I shall continue to work hard and keep moving towards my goal of winning honors for the country.”
Adidas signed Swapna after her success at the Asian Games in order to make her even more successful athlete on the global stage. She is not the first athlete who has been helped by the footwear giant. In the past, the Athlete Services lab of the company played host to the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma who were provided with customized footwear to avoid injury concerns and enhance their performances. Recently, Adidas has signed athletes Hima Das and Nikhat Zareen.
