The Tokyo 2020 NIPPON Festival is a programme that is aimed at promoting Japanese culture within the country as well as globally; it also encourages the awareness of diversity. The organizing committee for the Olympic and Paralympic tournament has revealed an outline that describes the planned contributions for the festival.
The programme is set to run between April and Septemeber in 2020 and will include events that are supported by a variety of companies and organizations including the Tokyo 2020. The programme is a part of the Tokyo 2020 Cultural Olympiad programme and is expected to be a stage for new cultural experiences and inspiration that provides the legacy for the future, according to the official Tokyo 2020 website.
The primary motive of this programme is to encourage people to participate in common projects and increase interaction with each other to build an inclusive society. It also becomes a platform for people to participate in Olympic and Paralympic Movements, thereby increasing the sense of anticipation through cultural and artistic events.
A catchphrase for the Tokyo 2020 NIPPON festival – “Blooming of Culture” – and a concept movie for Tokyo 2020 Olympics were also released. The catchphrase has been designed in a way to reflect the Japanese culture and the Japanese equivalent is easy to pronounce and remember as well.
The stage is going to be complete with a performance with intangible eastern and western cultural assets of kabuki and opera. These performances will follow a theme – “Celebrating the Start of the Games” in April 2020. In this programme, one of Japan’s most famous Kabuki actors, Ichikawa Ebizo XI, and the Maestro Plácido Domingo will collaborate on stage together in Tokyo.
