Birthday girl PV Sindhu entered the quarterfinal of the Indonesia Open badminton Championship of Thursday after beating Japan’s Aya Ohori 21-17, 21-14 in just over half an hour. This was the second consecutive victory for the 3rd seed, who had defeated the same opponent in the round of 32 at the Malaysian Open recently.
Ohori was quick of the blocks as she jumped to 3-0 lead in the first game. The Olympic silver medallist then bounced back to the race to a 5-4 lead. The battle was fiercely contested as both the shuttlers did not give each other enough space. At the interval, it was Sindhu who had a one-point lead (11-10) over her Japanese opponent.
After the break, Sindhu raced to five-point lead as Ohori tried to make a comeback. The Indian finally closed the game 21-17.
The second game witnessed Sindhu completely dominating her opponent as she raced to 11-3 at the break. Ohori tried to stage a fightback, the 3rd seed never allowed her opponent to get back into the game as she showed absolute class on the court to win the second game 21-14 and with that pocketed the match as well. Sindhu will now face 8th seed He Bingjio in the quarterfinal stage.
