The MMA contest held between Irish superstar Conor McGregor and Russian grappler Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in Las Vegas was the most profitable in the storied history of the company. The highly anticipated match at the T-Mobile arena ended up with a record 2.4 million buys and over 20,000 spectators attended the event in Las Vegas. Khabib eventually ended up winning the main event in four rounds through submission to defend is Lightweight Championship, but it was the post-match events which made all the headlines. Khabib ended up jumping out of the octagon to spark a massive brawl with Conor’s coaching staff and one of the members of his team also landed a big punch on Conor’s face.
These events meant that people already started to speculate on an eventual heated re-match and promoters have already opened up negotiations with Khabib’s camp so that the audience could get what they so badly want.
UFC has allegedly offered Khabib a whopping $15million for the rematch against Conor at a future date but Khabib’s camp has ended up refusing to take up the massive offer. The reason? They want even more cash.
Khabib’s father has claimed that they want double the amount, which the UFC is offering, demanding a sum in the region of $30million.
Khabib’s father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov interacting with the media said on the possibility of a future rematch, “They offered $15million to rematch with Conor. But we want $30million, guys. $30million.”
Before any rematch takes place though, both Khabib and Conor face the possibility of a long suspension and hefty fan for the brawl which ensued after the match. A disciplinary proceeding is set to take place next month where fate of both the fighters will be decided upon.
But with the huge interest from the masses and the sheer amount of money at stakes, it surely is only a matter of time before Khabib vs Conor Part 2 is announced.
