The Haryana based off-spinner Ajit Chandila must have regretted his decision that was taken outside the cricketing field where he got locked for involvement in spot-fixing scandal. Chandila before getting tainted attained a much deserving recognition in the Indian Premier league.
Captain Rahul Dravid, certainly forgot the bowler’s name during the toss time but Chandila didn’t really give much chances to his captain to omit or forget his name again.
The Royals while they were up against Pune Warriors India smashed 170 runs in 20 overs. A 61 from Ajinkya Rahane and 58 from Shane Watson were brutal enough to give the home side a blistering go in the encounter in Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
In reply, Dravid played what could be called a master stroke when he threw the new ball towards Ajit Chandila. Scalping Ryder and Sourav Ganguly gave the off-spinner all the confidence when he reduced Pune to 3/2 in the first over itself.
The left-hand New Zealander tried to dismantle Chandila’s stability and confidence when he danced down the track to only give a catch to Watson. Ganguly on the very next delivery didn’t read the ball that efficiently and Goswami who was behind the stumps was ready to disturb the woodwork behind the former Indian skipper.
In the next over Chandila scalped Uthappa in the same fashion to attain his first and probably his last hat trick in the Indian Premier league. The Haryana boy had time to pluck another wicket to get a 4-for in the match.
Pune were left tottering at 89/6 and were eventually scored 125/9 in 20 overs.
