Virat Kohli and Co. were humiliated once again by England in the second Test at the Lord’s last week. Team India have been completely outplayed in both the Test matches so far. Everything so far has been downhill for Team India since the Test series has begun.
The visitors are 2-0 down and if Virat Kohli & Co. don’t change things, soon enough they will end up being whitewashed 5-0. Team Indian bowlers so far have been only positive to be taken from the last two Test matches.
But on the other, the batting has been pretty poor and below par. All the three openers tried by India in the two Tests have failed miserably. The likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay, KL Rahul, Ajinkya Rahane and Dinesh Karthik have all found it very tough out there in the middle.
The Lord’s Test match effectively ended in just two and a half days. The first day was washed out, and at the end of the game on Day 4, visitors had batted just 82 overs in their two innings combined.
Not only that even injuries have hampered Team India’s performance. Now ahead of the third Test there is a lot to worry about Team India’s management. Likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar are already injured and now there are some fitness issues for Indian skipper Virat Kohli.
Kohli has been troubled by a recurring back injury in recent times, which flared up again at Lord’s. He scored 149 and 51 in the first Test but was seen struggling in the second Test. India’s medics have to work hard to get Kohli back to full fitness ahead of the third Test and if he is ruled out – it could be another nightmare outing for the Team India.
Dhawan, Vijay and Rahul have all failed miserably in the first two Tests and management this time will be thinking to drop Vijay and bring back Dhawan, who was dropped for the Lord’s Test. The openers have been regularly failing to see off the new ball and that is putting too much pressure on the middle order. The batsmen really need to up the ante in the remaining Tests.
One of the biggest disappointment has been Dinesh Karthik. No doubt he is talented and gives it all but he has just not been able to grasp the opportunities. And with talented Rishabh Pant waiting in the wings – coach Ravi Shastri might be tempted to give youngest a chance here.
It has been a collective failure so far in the series and its high time everyone knows their responsibility else 5-0 thrashing is on cards here for Team India.
