The IPL 2019 Playoffs are here and they have arrived in some style! Qualifier 1 saw Mumbai Indians beat Chennai Super Kings with some panache and qualify directly for the finals of the Indian Premier League 2019.
It is a new morning, and all eyes have now shifted to the Eliminator, which is a direct exit for the loser of this match. Remember, CSK has moved to Qualifier 2 and haven’t been eliminated. A direct elimination from the tournament adds more anticipation and excitement to this game.
Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals are all set to battle it out in the Eliminator tonight (8th May 2019) at the VDCA Stadium in Vishakapatnam. Both these teams have had a great Vivo IPL till this point.
SRH have ridden mainly on their foreign talent – David Warner and Jonny Bairstow – the duo has been commendable with great performances; however, they are not on IPL duty anymore. As for Delhi Capitals, it has been more of a team effort with combined, sleek performances from almost everyone. Kagiso Rabada with the ball and Shikhar Dhawan with the bat have been in decent form.
Without much delay, here are three players that we believe will hold the key for their respective teams.
Rashid Khan easily becomes a key man for SRH, with the Vizag track promising to offer something for the spinners. He has not been among the wickets this IPL, however, he has had a steady economy rate and delivered some crucial wickets. Do not take anything away from the Afghani, can we see another hattrick? It is the IPL, and you never know!
It is no surprise to see that Kane is one of the most important players for SRH. Kane Williamson has a knack for standing up at the big stage and does anything really get any bigger than the Vivo IPL Eliminator? A steady and anchoring role to the innings with a flourish towards the end is all that the doctor demands.
Since Bairstow and Warner have departed for international duty, Manish Pandey has come to the party. The No. 3 batsman has risen to the occasion with some match-winning 50s in this year’s IPL. For SRH to qualify, Pandey will have to play another blistering knock for the Orange Army in the IPL Eliminator.
Shreyas Iyer has led the revamped Delhi outfit remarkably well. The skipper has not only marshaled his troops well but also been in good touch with the bat. Similar to his counterpart, DC would love to get a good odd 70-80 (or maybe even a 100) from their captain in the IPL Eliminator.
We all know what happens when Rishabh Pant goes berserk with the bat in hand. We have seen it in the previous IPLs and a glimpse of it this year too. While his chatter behind the wickets is always welcomed, a few meaty blows from his willow could see the side notch up a great total.
What ages better than wine? Probably, Amit Mishra. The veteran is at it again with his leggies and has struck some timely blows for the Delhi outfit. The pitch is set to offer something for the spinners and Mishraji knows exactly how to exploit that, with all those years of experience.
Well, no matter what happens, we know one thing for sure – it is going to be one hell of a game!
