Paul Valthaty wouldn’t have asked for a better opportunity than a clash between Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings. The night was all set to witness two talented teams, the Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings in Mohali.
Batting first, Chennai suffered a blow on the very first delivery as Praveen Kumar trapped Anirudha for a golden duck to draw first blood. Coming down at number three, Suresh Raina was expected to give his team a flamboyant start after an early blow but Kumar’s swing bowling was enough to dislodge his UP counterpart’s batting on the second ball of the match.
With two in two for Kumar, the stage was all set for the Kings XI Punjab bowlers to quickly wrap up Chennai’s innings. But Vijay and Badrinath had different plans as the two right-hand batsmen chipped in for a partnership of 124 runs both scoring individual half centuries.
Other than the two batsmen it was skipper MS Dhoni who looked in full flow with the willow. The Jharkhand poster boy smacked 20-ball 43 during the course. Dhoni-led CSK franchise scored 188/4 in 20 overs.
In reply Kings XI Punjab Paul Valthaty smashed a scintillating hundred in the top order to guide his team to a win by 6 wickets. Along with Valthaty, it was Gilchrist, Sunny Singh and Dinesh Karthik chipped in with some supporting scores.
Valthaty scored a total of 120 runs and remained unbeaten as Kings XI Punjab won the match by 6 wickets sparing 5 balls in the conclusion of the match.
