Ricky Ponting played international cricket for more than 18 years. He is arguably the best Australian captain and one of the best batsmen the country has produced. On Thursday, Ponting picked his greatest XI of all time.

Hayden and Langer to open
Ricky Ponting chose Matthew Hayden and Justin Langer as the openers in his Test side. Hayden and Langer played under Ponting for a long part of their career and were quite dominant in their approach.

Brian Lara and Kumar Sangakkara at 5 and 6
Two of the most stylish and legendary left-handers in Lara and Sangakkara cement the 5 and 6 th position. Sangakkara even captains the side.
Adam Gilchrist at 7
Adam Gilchrist, who kept wickets for Australia for a long time, keeps in Ponting’s team as well.
Shane Warne is the lone spinner
Shane Warne walks in to Ponting’s greatest XI as the one spinner. Warne took 708 Test wickets, playing for Australia.
Pace trio of Wasim Akram, Glenn McGrath and Curtly Ambrose
This is some pace attack that Ponting has chosen for his team. He has the left-arm swing of Wasim Akram, the pigeon hole McGrath and the fierce Curtly Ambrose in his team.
