Chennai Super Kings has been one of the teams which made to the most number of Indian Premier League finals. They made a cut in the inaugural season in 2008 against Rajasthan Royals where they lost the clash while bagged the title in 2010 and 2011.
In 2012 against Kolkata Knight Rides, the MS Dhoni-led team registered a berth in the final for the third time on the trot and fourth time overall. But the 2010 and 2011 feat couldn’t be repeated on this occasion as Kolkata Knight Riders’ Manvinder Bisla smashed a match-winning innings in the final encounter.
Playing at their home, Chennai opted to bat first and scored heaps of runs during the course. Suresh Raina commenced the slaughtering of the KKR bowlers as the left-hand batsman scored 38-ball 73 runs while Hussey and Vijay gave the perfect start to the home side.
Chennai went on to score a total of 190 runs at the cost of 3 wickets in 20 overs.
Kolkata began their chase in a manner that they wouldn’t have liked as they lost skipper Gautam Gambhir early in the innings but the 136-run stand between Manvinder Bisla and Jacques Kallis proved fatal for the opposition. No other batsman was able to produce a good performance but Bisla’s presence in the middle was enough the etch victory for the visitors.
Bisla scored 92 during the chase as KKR wrapped the victory by 5 wickets.
