MS Dhoni is someone who’s always chosen to keep his cards close to his chest and not wear his heart on his sleeve. But just like all of us, MSD is human and just like all of us, he happened to get emotional in one of the episodes of the series named ‘MS Dhoni’s greatest finishes’.
Playing against Kings XI Punjab in a must-win situation in Game 54 of the IPL 2010. Chennai Super Kings had earlier choked in the game against Punjab and hence, this became a must-win to enter the semifinals. Needing 29 runs off 12 balls, MS Dhoni with his methodical madness, plotted the downfall of Kings XI. One of South Africa’s biggest domestic product who never got a longer run in the international run, Rusty Theron was up against Dhoni in the 19th over. Dhoni made sure with boundaries and a last-ball single to keep 16 runs for the final over and most importantly, the strike.
Going up against Irfan Pathan who is by no means a death bowler, Dhoni hit a boundary off the first ball. 12 required now. Next ball two runs. 10 required now off 3. Dhoni used the full use of his muscular arms and sent it flying over long on. That pumped him up. But his eyes were calm. 3 balls left and 4 to get. What do you think MS Dhoni did? He sends the ball flying over long on, lets out something of a war-cry which you can never normally associate with MSD and gives himself an uppercut through the helmet. More importantly, Chennai were through to the semi-final and yet again, MS Dhoni had pulled off a daylight robbery.
