Adam Gilchrist might have just been known for his wicket-keeping and batting skills in world cricket but on this occasion, it was his captaincy skills that caught everyone’s eye. While playing against Mumbai Indians who were chasing 146 runs during the course, Gilchrist handed the ball to Rohit Sharma.
Sharma’s spell turned out to be a fatal one for his current franchise team Mumbai Indians when the right-handed player scalped four wickets including a hattrick in 2 overs and just giving away 6 runs. Rohit first cleaned up Abhishek Nayar who tried to sweep a ball going towards the leg-side but completely misjudged the spin. Later on the next delivery it was Harbhajan Singh who played the ball on to his stumps and Duminy emerged to be Rohit’s third victim of the feat when Gilchrist took a superb catch behind the stumps.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma also came up with a score of 38 runs as the highest individual score for the team. They put up 145/6 in 20 overs. He was though wrapped up by Lasith Malinga.
Duminy on the other side scored a half century for Mumbai Indians which was never enough to take his franchise team past the line. Rohit also picked up his fourth wicket when Sourabh Tiway was stumped by Gilchrist. MI ended up with a score of 126/8 wickets in 20 overs.
