During the 2009 edition of the Indian Premier League, Yuvraj Singh showed his ability with the ball after the left-hand batsman bagged his first hattrick against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Durban. Going at a good pace, RCB looked in momentum before Yuvraj put a halt on their run-scoring rate.
Robin Uthappa became his first victim who tried to slog one over the boundary but just ended up giveing a catch to Simon Katich at the cow corner. Katich though held on to a blinder during the course. On the very next delivery, it was legendary batsman Kallis who was cleaned up by Yuvraj afterr treying to cut a straighter one and the third consecutive wicket for Yuvraja came in the form of Mark Bouncher who was pretty easily trapped in front of the wickets.
RCB ended their quota of 20 overs at 145/9.
Later in the chase, Kings XI Punjab fell apart with the total and were asked to stand on the losing podium after suffering a 8-run defeat. Yuvraj though, in the top order scored a half-century but no other batsman looked in control and were restricted to 137/7 in 20 overs. Yuvraj was awarded with the man of the match award.
The 2009 edition of the Indian premier League was won by Deccan Chargers where they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final match.
