Mumbai Indians’ Harbhajan Singh and Ambati Rayudu were involved in an on-field spat during their team’s 2016 encounter against the Rising Pune Supergiants in Pune. The incident took place during the Pune innings when a diving Rayudu couldn’t prevent a boundary off the offspinner’s bowling in the deep. The fielding effort frustrated the feisty bowler and he yelled at his teammate.
Rayudu was in no mood to take that and instantly yelled back with an animated reaction. Both players then walked towards each other before Harbhajan put his arms around Rayudu to comfort him. Rayudu, still simmering, ignored the gesture and walked back. The two made peace later in the innings and even celebrated a fall of wicket.
Rayudu and Harbhajan are both known to play aggressively. The two are never shy in expressing their feelings and have also been guilty in the past for having crossed the line on a few occasions. Rayudu was once involved in a spat against RCB’s Harshal Patel while the off-spinner had an infamous slapgate incident with S Sreesanth.
For that incident, while Rayudu was fined 100 per cent of his match fee, Patel was reprimanded and fined 25 percent of his earnings. Harbhajan had suffered a stricter punishment and was banned for the rest of the tournament, while Sreesanth was let off with a warning after disciplinary proceedings. The Rayudu-Patel incident took place in the 2012 edition while the Harbhajan- Sreesanth saga was witnessed in the inaugural edition of the marquee league.
