England all-rounder Ben Stokes took potshots at former Australian opening batsman Matthew Hayden on Tuesday (November 21). Stokes quote retweeted Hayden’s remark in a news article on the England team, where he pointed out that he does not know half of the English squad.
Stokes in reply said, “Hayden says he doesn’t know who half our squad is….only 2 from the squad haven’t played at International level…..he’s a cricket pundit yeah??”

Stokes did not tour Australia with the England team for The Ashes as he was involved in a violent act a few weeks before the squad was to be announced. Later on, England Cricket decided to not pick him up in the Ashes squad. However, the England all-rounder has been supporting the Three Lions from back home. This tweet is just a testimony to the same that Stokes does not want to lag behind in playing the mental game despite being not part of the squad.
However, Fox Sports reported that Stokes might make the cut into England squad as early as the third Test but nothing official has come out of the board as yet.
Former Australian fast bowler Stuart Clark, reacting Stokes’ comments, said, “He has lit the fuse. I’d suggest that Ben has got bigger issues than fighting former players on Twitter. In fairness to Ben Stokes, nothing has come of the whole issue. It doesn’t look great but I get the feeling he will be out here at some stage.”
