Sunrisers Hyderabad opener David Warner has added another feather to his cap as he won the Orange Cap of Indian Premier League 2019. Warner was the first and the only batsman to breach 600-run mark this season.
The former SunRisers Hyderabad captain was the top run-getter in IPL 2019 despite playing 12 matches. He was not part of SRH last two league matches and eliminator. He scored 692 runs at an average of 69.20.
Warner hit eight half-centuries and century, scoring at a strike-rate of 143.86. Warner has scored more than 500 runs in all the five tournaments he has been associated with the Orange Army.
This is the third time he is winning the Orange Cap in the IPL. Earlier, he received the Orange Cap for his exploits in the 2015 season where the left-hander scored 562 runs at an average of 43.43 with seven fifties.
In the following season in 2016 – he scored whopping 848 runs with nine half-centuries but finished second behind Virat Kohli, who amassed 973 runs. However, Warner led the Sunrisers to their maiden title that year.
In 2017, Warner smashed 641 runs in only 14 innings at 58.27 and won the Orange Cap once again. The sandpaper gate in 2018 ruled Warner out of the season last time around. But he has come back ever so strongly this time around.
