The Kolkata Knight Riders franchise suffered a set back after Andre Russell was banned for a year for a doping whereabouts rule violation. The all-rounder was revealed to have committed the violation 11 months ago after registering three filing failures in 2015. That constitutes a failed drugs test under WADA rules.
The franchise has now got a task at their disposal of picking up one player who can fill in this void created after Russell’s ban. Skipper Gautam Gambhir talked about the same in a video generated by the left-hand batsman on his social media account.
“It’s a massive auction for us because as all KKR fans know that we only have three foreign players so we have the capacity to buy 6 more foreign players. Someone like Andre Russel has been banned for one year so I think it is important one for us. Whatever we decide, it’s going to be the best interest of KKR and we will try and make the fans happy. Hopefully, we can win the third time and create history. Keep supporting us and keep believing in us and I can assure you one thing that there would be no shortage of anything from our side”, Gambhir said in the video.
The Indian Premier League auction would take place in Bengaluru on Monday where all eyes would be on the franchise teams as there have been few new names in the draft for whom the teams would battle it out in the auctions.
