When you are emotionally broken, it is difficult to lift your spirits. Rishabh Pant went through an emotional turmoil two weeks back when his father passed away a day before his IPL side’s Delhi Daredevils first game against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Pant’s father left him suddenly and it must have come as the biggest setback in his life. But a day after completing his father’s last rites, Pant was back in the field with the Delhi Daredevils, showing that, inside him, there was not only a good cricketer but a great character. He did not only lift his spirits, but also his cricket bat and smashed a 37-ball-56 against RCB, almost winning the game for his side.
The next day Pant made headlines but it would not have been easy on him to go through a roller-coaster ride in a matter of 2 days. For a 20-year-old like him, it would have been a little more difficult but he showed he could go through this. He showed that he is made for bigger things. However, at the same time, not many knew what was going through Pant’s mind when he took the field and what made him chose cricket even at such a time.
The Delhi batsman has finally revealed why he chose to play the match against RCB. The Navbharat Times quoted Pant as saying, “This (against RCB) was the toughest inning of my life. My father always wanted me to play cricket. His dream was to watch me play for India for a long time. This is why I decided to play the game against RCB. It was because of my father that I wanted to play the game. It was tough for me to handle myself but I got over my emotions somehow.”
Pant’s statement has once again revealed his strong character. He has proved that he can surpass anything to play the game which he loves. We can only stand and applause the youngster.
