Australian duo Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell will miss the initial stages of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018. Finch is expected to marry partner Amy Griffiths on April 7. Finch was earlier told that the tournament will begin from April 15, but according to the schedule released by the IPL, the first match of the tournament will be played on April 7. Maxwell, who is a close friend of Finch is expected to be the Master of Ceremonies (MC) of the wedding. Incidentally, Finch’s Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) – his seventh franchise in the IPL – will take on Maxwell’s Delhi Daredevils at the Kotla on April 8.
Finch however, is expected to be in India ahead of Delhi’s second game, which is on April 13. “I saw the fixture this morning – there’s no chance I’ll be missing my wedding,” Finch told reporters in Auckland on Thursday, according to cricket.com.au.
“That’d be a bit tough leaving Amy at the altar, wouldn’t it?” The second game we play is on the 13th, that’ll give me plenty of time to get over there and miss only one game luckily.”
“Having one of my good mates ‘Hodgey’ as coach … he knows about it now. I did wait a bit longer to send him the invite before the auction. It’s just a case of missing one game but hopefully playing with Kings over a three-year period, it’s not the end of the world.”
Finch does not expect many high profile Australians to miss the tournament. “Guys like Davey (David Warner) and that, they’ve got a job to do for their franchises so I’m sure they’ll be in India,” he said.
