English all-rounder Chris Woakes who has been in brilliant form in international cricket for England has been sold for Rs 7.4 crore Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2018 edition of the IPL auction which is currently being held in Bengaluru. Chennai Super Kings started the bid at Rs 2 crore and then were joined by Royal Challengers Bangalore. The all-rounder can operate as a strike bowler who can also contain runs when his teams are in a precarious situation. His batting over the years has also improved by leaps and bounds and he can strike some lusty blows down the order. His performances with both the bat and the ball have established him as a crucial member of the English unit in all the three formats of the game.
Previous record in the IPL
The 2017 edition of the IPL was the first time when Woakes threw his hat in the IPL ring. He was brought by Kolkata Knight Riders for a sum of 4.2 crores and played in 13 matches in the tournament. He had a decent outing with the ball in the tournament, picking up 17 wickets at an average of 22.70. His economy rate was a tad on the expensive side though as he conceded runs at an economy rate of 8.77.
With the bat, he did not get many opportunities to bat as Kolkata Knight Riders had a pretty solid batting order. He only scored 46 runs in the tournament.
