Some last minute changes in the India A squad for their upcoming Australia tour have come as a surprise. Naman Ojha, who was to lead India in both the one-dayers as well as four-day games, has now been replaced by Manish Pandey.
The other three changes are the inclusion of Yuzvendra Chahal, Mandeep Singh and Hardik Pandya in place of Shahbaz Nadeem, Vijay Shankar and Akhil Herwadkar. Dropped from the one-day squad, Ojha will be leading India A side in the four-day games. On the other hand, Kedar Jadhav will be playing just the limited overs cricket in Australia and will not take part in the four-day games.
Naman Ojha who had more than a decent outing the last time he led India A in Australia revealed that he was informed about the changes two days back. He told Indian Express:
“Selectors have made four changes in the team (India A) and now I will go only for the four-day matches. They’ve removed me and made four changes, I was told two days ago.”
However, there no reasons have been revealed why these four changes were made. The exclusions of the four players come as a big surprise for the fact that all four of them had attended the strength and conditioning camp organized specially for the tour, held from July 12 to 17 at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore.
India A’s tour will begin with the Indians taking on Australia A on August 14 in the opening match. The series also involves two other teams in South Africa A and National Performance Squad. Theone-day series will be followed by two ‘Test’ matches against Australia A, beginning from September 8 in Brisbane.
Squad for limited-overs series: Manish Pandey, Faiz Fazal, Mandeep Singh, Shreyas Iyer, Karun Nair, Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Jayant Yadav, Dhawal Kulkarni, Jaydev Unadkat, Barinder Sran, Yuzvendra Chahal, Sanju Samson.
