Chennai Super Kings has been one franchise who have made the most IPL final appearances so far. Right from the first edition, Chennai have been a part of title clash matches for six times. But they first won it in the team’s second attempt and in the third edition.
Batting first Chennai Super Kings rode on Suresh Raina’s unbeaten 57 runs to guide his team to a total of 168 runs in Mumbai against Mumbai Indians. Murali Vijay and MS Dhoni were the other two who chipped in with decent knocks that added to the score.
None of the Mumbai bowlers except for Dilhara Fernando, were able to put a halt on the Super Kings’ run-flow. Fernando bagged two wickets of the Chennai batting while Zaheer Khan and Kieron Pollard were the other two bowlers to pick one wicket each.
In reply, Mumbai Indians had the most dismal start as they lost Shikhar Dhawan early in the chase but Nayar along with Sachin Tendulkar came in with a stand of 66 runs for the second wicket. Tendulkar eventually scored a total of 48 runs in that particular game while Nayar and Pollard scored 27 apiece.
Ambati Rayudu was the only other player to get into the double figures as Mumbai innings were concluded for 146/9 in 20 overs to hand a win to CSK by 22 runs. This was the first time Chennai Super Kings won the Indian Premier League after making an attempt for the second time in three seasons.
