Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is known for keeping his calm on the field. However, on Saturday, after losing the semi-final against Bengal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the World Cup-winning captain, reportedly lost his cool.
English daily Indian Express reported that one of the Jharkhand players said that it was the first time the team saw Dhoni so serious in a game. He said, “We desperately wanted to make it into the final. It was Mahi bhai’s desire to win the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Our bowlers lacked consistency. You don’t expect such kind of bowling in a semifinal match.
He further said, “Because of poor fielding and lack of consistency in bowling, they (Bengal) were able to put up 330 runs. Dhoni bhai was not pleased with that and for the first time, I saw him so upset. You don’t expect Dhoni bhai to lose his calm. He is the one who always backs us.”
Dhoni was upset with the bowlers for not showing good performance in the match, giving away too many runs. Bengal made 329 runs while batting first and it was never going to be easy chasing 330 runs after having lost 3 wickets under 100 runs for Jharkhand.
Dhoni has been known for keeping his calm and him losing his cool indicated how hungry is still for win, irrespective of whether he is playing international cricket at the moment or not. The hunger to win is still there and this hunger is good for Indian cricket at large.
