Kusal Mendis seems to be the next big thing in Sri Lankan cricket. The 21-year-old hit his maiden Test ton against Australia on Thursday. Most importantly, he brought back Sri Lanka in a game, which they had almost lost grip on the first day of the match. In doing so, Mendis scored his best first class score as well.
The third day of the first Test match ended with Sri Lanka in a great position at 282 for 6, leading by 196 runs. Mendis ended his day at 169*. The fourth day might see the young batsman score his first double ton. Until that happens, he has some time left to relish in all the compliments flowing for him from the Sri Lankan legends.
Former Sri Lankan all-rounder Russel Arnold called Mendis’ knock a classy one.
